Welcome to UFCW Local 38

Local 38 is a labor union, which according to the dictionary is a "grouping of independent individuals for some common purpose." We're people who despite our differences, are united in the common goal of helping each other achieve dignity and fairness in the workplace and a fair wage for a fair days work.

The UFCW's mission is simple: We are workers helping other workers to:

•Achieve better wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.

•Have a true, independent voice in the workplace.

•Be treated with dignity, justice, and respect on the job.

•Earn their worth. Union members earn much more than comparable nonunion workers. The added pay and benefits workers receive through belonging to the union are, on average, 37% higher than nonunion workers.

Our union is founded on workers empowering workers to unite and find their voice.

Workers have the right to stick together on the job, to go to the boss and negotiate the kind of wages, benefits, and safe working conditions we need to raise our kids, to live a decent life, to put a little something aside for a rainy day, and to retire with dignity. This right to stick together is a basic, fundamental right at the heart of the labor movement. We know and understand what workers face on the job. Workers need career jobs with affordable health care; decent, middle-class wages; and safe working environments. We work to improve the opportunities for families. We work to improve jobs so we can turn our dreams into reality and raise the standards for everyone.

Together in our union, UFCW members work to improve wages, benefits, and conditions on the job. We negotiate with our employers to make sure they compensate workers with kind of pay and benefits that allow us the dignity of a fair paycheck and the ability to support ourselves.

We join together in our union because we know the fate of the American worker can’t be left entirely in the hands of the wealthiest one percent. After all, no one knows the issues that impact working America better than the workers themselves.

Our members work for 4 different employers with whom we have collective bargaining agreements. Our relationship with these companies is based on mutual respect. Both parties know the other has an important job to do. Ours is to represent our members to the best of our ability. The employers are to operate a profitable business that provides our members with the opportunity to work and earn a decent living. When both parties do their jobs well we all prosper.

The UFCW devotes maximum resources to providing the best, most comprehensive, and professional representation to our members to help them maintain their standard of living and create a better future for their families.

In solidarity,

Russ Baker, President
